Wasn't really that close, but I thought I'd share anyway...
I was riding to work yesterday in the rain. Was running a bit late, so I was riding fast. All them layers take a while to put on... I need to set my alarm earlier.
I was almost to work and wound up stuck behind a big rig going half the speed limit for no apparent reason for a few miles. When I got close enough to my turn, I cranked some throttle and went for the left turn lane. There was another truck in the turn lane. Not thinking anything of it, I braked pretty hard for what would usually be a nice smooth stop. The back brake locked up on the wet road, and I started to slide. It slid out enough to whip me back when I let off, and my stop turned out to not be very smooth at all.
My MSF instructor would have called it FTLC. Failure to look cool.
Anyway, weather's getting cold and wet this time of year. A little bit of patience goes a long way out there. We could all use a reminder now and then... Ride safe, my friends.
