Wasn't really that close, but I thought I'd share anyway...

I was riding to work yesterday in the rain. Was running a bit late, so I was riding fast. All them layers take a while to put on... I need to set my alarm earlier.

I was almost to work and wound up stuck behind a big rig going half the speed limit for no apparent reason for a few miles. When I got close enough to my turn, I cranked some throttle and went for the left turn lane. There was another truck in the turn lane. Not thinking anything of it, I braked pretty hard for what would usually be a nice smooth stop. The back brake locked up on the wet road, and I started to slide. It slid out enough to whip me back when I let off, and my stop turned out to not be very smooth at all. My MSF instructor would have called it FTLC. Failure to look cool.

Anyway, weather's getting cold and wet this time of year. A little bit of patience goes a long way out there. We could all use a reminder now and then... Ride safe, my friends.

Had to chuckle a little at this one!! Sometimes I'd like to get off my bike and kick my OWN arse for pulling a boneheaded move similar to this! Definitely bruises an ego and subtracts cool points!! Not as bad as almost dropping your bike at a crowded intersection trying to pull your pant leg back down over your boot!!!

man i'm glad i'm not the only one to feel a little embarrassed at some stuff i do from time to time on the bike.

I rode on wet roads for the first time yesterday. I was a bit nervous. The way I drove home you would have thought there was ice on the road. I'm just really scared I only have two wheels on a wet road. I'm sure the bike gets much better traction in the wet weather than I give it credit, but I'm not taking a chance. Sucks because my bikes all dirty now. Guess I know what I'm doing this Saturday.
