People are idiots. I see that here in Miami all the time people not respecting. I myself work driving around a lot and I always give a motorcycle the right of way even if it is my turn I still give them the right of way. Also if I see a dum ass in the street thats drive a car and a scooter or a motorcycle that might be in danger I try to get in the way of the car thats acting up to protect the motorcycle person..

Well spoken by this guy. But this video also show us that we have to be extra careful out there. Times have changed, more people have cars, 10 years ago we didn't have texting so that's another add - on that makes the road less safe. Justr mind your suroundings and as in the MSF course I was told 12 second rule...

There is a campaign going on here to be aware of motorcycle riders.
But I suggest to ride always like you are a rabbit in an open field and there are just hawks and coyotes every where.
**** a few years back a little old lady who had no license drove her car on top of a Harley rider and killed him.
I watched my son kick the door of a car that was half way in his lane, that didn’t see him, he was right next the drivers door.
I can go on and on about what seems to happen daily when riding.
All be safe, it is not paranoid to think that the Cagers are out to get you.

There is one of those electronic road signs (usually used to advise motorists of accidents, delays etc) on I-75 north out of Atlanta. Recently, the sign advised people to be aware of motorcyclists, share the road and slow down. This is a good thing as it makes people take notice and realize that cars and trucks are not the only vehicles on the road. Glad I took notice as there was a motorcycle Cop about a mile down the road with his radar gun pointed right at me. Moral of story: Be aware of motorcyclists, especially ones with a radar gun in their hands. HaHa

I ride year 'round, sometimes on roads where I can pretty reliably expect a couple people to try to run me into a ditch before I get home. It's been my experience that it doesn't really get any better or worse if people are expecting to see motorcycles or not. The campaigns aren't doing any good.

I just accept that everyone is trying to kill me, and get on with it. It's not like they do it on purpose. Being nice and cozy in a car just breeds complacency and inattention. It happens to me, too.

Mentat is right. There is only so much you can do to improve your odds. In the final analysis, your chances of avoiding an accident are a combination of riding skills and lots of luck. Here is something to ponder.... Do you enhance your odds of not getting smushed by riding more, which will improve your skills or riding less, which decreases your exposure ?

When I ride, I all ways have 2 thoughts in my mind,
1: They don't see me
2: If they do see me, then they are trying to hit me.
So far it has worked for me.
That is what I am teaching my wife.
Do not ride beside vehicles - either out front on in the back.
When coming to a turn, do not assume that because you are in the correct lane the other lane(s) won't turn.
Always check your mirror when coming to a stop/stopped
