Hey folks, a few weeks ago I purchased a brand new 2012 Stryker, it's the black with the chrome. So far I replaced the air cover and the exhaust to black. Things I still would like done to make it look like the raven would be the fender struts, wheels, triple trees, turn signals, handle bars, and pulley cover. But I found a dealership that said if I pay them an extra $2500 they will give me a 2013 Raven. I'll be taking a $1600 loss from what I paid as well from my 3 week old bike . If you were in my shoes what would you do? Thanks.

HELLLLLLLL no that would be a crazy stupid deal. Unless you're made of money i wouldn't even consider something like that. You could take that $2,500 + the $1,600 loss you would take and make your 3-week old bike bad ass!!

I read the post 3x and not sure if I understand if it is a $2500+1600=$4100 or a $1600 difference between the two. **** no if it is a $4100 setback. If you are still in the Corps that a pretty serious ding to the finances for color change. Even at $1600 you can do a lot of mods and powercoating and make it your own. It's bad deal for you.The price difference between the '12 & '13 is only $500 bucks MSRP if you look on the Star website ($11090 vs $11590). You got the 2012 cash back offer. Assuming the dealer paid $500 more, do not give that other dealer $2000 of your hard earned money devil dog. Thank you for your service.

Thanks fellas. By an addition $1600 loss I meant that they will give me $1600 less than what I paid for my 12' 3 weeks ago. I would have to give them $2500 for the trade. The reason I considered it because I thought to myself is it worth the hassle of removing and re-installing everything to get the wheels, triple trees, levers, handlebars powder coated then that doesn't include the plastics, I would have to buy new turn signals and covers, etc. whereas I can just buy it from the factory and not mess with it.

Don't think that's a fair deal at all. 3 week old bike you can't possibly have many miles on it.
Take a $500 loss plus the $500 more for the 13 model. $1,000 max. or do the bike you have your way. Make it your own.

Exactly. If you have the $2500, do it. Get the bike you really want. You don't have to justify to anyone. Cause halfway through disassembly, you'll wish you did.

usmarinedelta real easy....google : powdercoat(your city)~ there are some good powder coat places everywhere. Take all the pieces off that you want powder coated and take them in. If you are going to order a chin scoop or other plastics, wait for them so that you can take them in at once. You already saved money by doing this.
What you think is the difficult or you are unsure of doing yourself.
Pay someone else to do it. rule of thumb :thumb:
Dont mess with this wheels unless its time to change the back tire.(unless you have that kind of $$) If they are black they are fine. Put your $$ on blacking out the chrome first.
Most of all Good Luck and
Be safe my soldier friend.

Personally I'm not a fan of the "all black" bikes but if that is your thing fine. The easy way will always be more expensive but if you don't have the time and/or necessary skills then breaking things could get even more expensive than the trade/swap. Plus, time is money so unless you really enjoy wrenching I'd factor that in. You cannot ride while you are wrenching:)

My screw-up is as follows: Could have gotten a 2011 Raven with 4K miles, YES warranty, boulevard windshield and the bags(I didn't like those but still...) for $2100 less than the 2012 Copper I was going to purchase at my dealer. Wife said she liked the black(but she really liked the discount!!) but was fine either way. I went with the copper because I liked the color and as I said I'm not a fan of all black.
Recently Patrice did her bike crazy cool and the price was in the neighborhood. I was green and passed on a great deal. That said I'm more than happy with my copper but now the custom paint ghost is haunting/taunting me for being a newbie:(

You should have bought a used 2011 Raven...

Well I guess the real question you need to ask yourself is do you want a "stock" factory black Raven or do you want your own personal build. If your happy with the stock bike than by all means go for it if your comfortable with the price difference. Seems a bit much to loose on a 3 week old bike when all your getting is a color change but that's just me. For me the satisfaction of building my own one of a kind ride is half the enjoyment. My new leftover 2011 will be delivered Sat. and I've spent hours deciding on what I want to do with it. It goes in the garage and starts changing immediately. I love building things and when it's done it sure won't be anything the local Yamaha dealer offers!
